  1. Mariners should have had 117 wins that season for the all-time record, instead they share the record of 116 with the 1906 Chicago Cubs. They had a good club that year, and they should have beat the Yankees. Instead, another day of infamy in 44 years of Mariners futility. Another irony is that Seattle would play Cleveland that year in the ALDS, after 9/11. The Tribe blew out the M’s 17-2 in game 3 to go up 2-1 in the series. But Seattle won the next two games on gems pitched by Garcia and Moyer, and the bats of Cameron and Edgar Martinez.
